Rip Rap material

Product overview

Very large stone for heavy-duty erosion and stormwater applications.

What the material is

Rip Rap consists of very large stone pieces used where slopes, shorelines, channels, or culvert areas face concentrated water flow.

How GLWD supplies it

Sourced crushed stone supplied by local granite quarries.

When not to use it

Not intended for driveways or walking surfaces. Placement usually requires equipment and may require underlayment fabric.

Pickup and delivery

Pickup at Pit 421 or dump truck delivery. Confirmed when ordering.

Truck and load options

Available for pickup or delivery in all GLWD load sizes. GLWD can help match the truck and load size to the amount needed, delivery distance, and access at the property.

Quantity guidance

Measure the length and width of the area and the desired material depth. For irregular areas, divide the project into smaller sections and measure each one. A phone can help collect approximate measurements—iPhones include the Measure app, and similar measuring apps are available for other phones. Coverage varies greatly with stone size, slope, and placement method, so use measurements as a starting estimate. Use the Product Finder Quiz if you are still choosing a material, then estimate your quantity.

Delivery preparation

Choose a firm, level dump location with enough room for the driver to enter, raise the truck bed, unload, and leave safely. Check for low tree limbs, overhead power or communication lines, gates, narrow entrances, soft ground, steep slopes, and tight turns. Identify anything hidden beneath the route or dumping area, including septic tanks and drain fields, irrigation lines, pipes, culverts, utility lines, recently filled trenches, and other breakable structures. Dump trucks are extremely heavy and may crack concrete or asphalt, especially when crossing edges or leaving the paved surface. The driver makes the final decision about whether the requested location can be reached safely. Provide room for placement equipment and keep the truck back from unsupported banks and steep drop-offs.
