Brown Fill Dirt material

Product overview

Natural fill for building elevation, filling low areas, and reshaping property.

What the material is

Brown Fill Dirt is a natural soil material used to build elevation, fill deeper areas, and reshape a property before a finished surface is installed.

How GLWD supplies it

Brown Fill Dirt is mined from GLWD’s pits. As a natural pit material, its color, texture, and moisture content can vary.

When not to use it

Do not use Brown Fill Dirt as a finished planting soil or expect it to have the screened consistency of topsoil. Planting areas should normally receive a final layer of screened topsoil or amended soil.

Pickup and delivery

Pickup at Pit 421 or dump truck delivery. Confirmed when ordering.

Truck and load options

Available for pickup or delivery in all GLWD load sizes. GLWD can help select a truck based on the amount needed and site access.

Quantity guidance

Measure the length and width of the area and the desired material depth. For irregular areas, divide the project into smaller sections and measure each one. A phone can help collect approximate measurements—iPhones include the Measure app, and similar measuring apps are available for other phones. Include an allowance for settlement or compaction before adding the finished layer. Use the Product Finder Quiz if you are still choosing a material, then estimate your quantity.

Delivery preparation

Choose a firm, level dump location with enough room for the driver to enter, raise the truck bed, unload, and leave safely. Check for low tree limbs, overhead power or communication lines, gates, narrow entrances, soft ground, steep slopes, and tight turns. Identify anything hidden beneath the route or dumping area, including septic tanks and drain fields, irrigation lines, pipes, culverts, utility lines, recently filled trenches, and other breakable structures. Dump trucks are extremely heavy and may crack concrete or asphalt, especially when crossing edges or leaving the paved surface. The driver makes the final decision about whether the requested location can be reached safely. Plan for equipment to spread and compact the fill in layers when the project requires compaction.
